Peter qualified from University College Dublin in 1996, after which he worked in a number of practices throughout Ireland and the UK. Establishing his own practice had long been an ambition of Peter's and he was delighted to bring Cú Chulainn Veterinary Hospital to fruition in 2015. His vast experience in mixed and small animal practice as well as his strong empathy for animals is highly valued by our clients.
His aim for Cú Chulainn Vets is to deliver a professional service to every animal entrusted to our care, every time they visit the hospital. Our vets use modern concepts, medicines and surgeries to improve the clinical outcomes for each patient presented to us. It is our privilege to be entrusted with the healthcare of these animals and it is the reason we enjoy the Veterinary Profession in which we work.
Having grown up in rural Kilkenny, caring for animals has always been part of life for Freda. After school she completed a BSc in Biomedical Science at University College Cork, before moving to London to study Veterinary Medicine at The Royal Veterinary College, graduating with honours in 2013. Once qualified, she worked in mixed and equine practice for five years in the UK. In 2018 she moved to Kerry with her husband, drawn to the mountains and beaches of The Kingdom. After locumming at several practices around the county and lecturing at IT Tralee for a semester, she became a permanent member of our staff in January 2019. Freda has a special interest in surgery and cardiology and takes every opportunity to improve her skills in these areas. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, open water swimming and spending time with her ginger cat Shefflin and faithful border terrier, Ralph.
Lisa gained her veterinary nursing diploma in her home country, The Netherlands in 2015. After graduation, she worked in several practices in The Netherlands and Ireland. Lisa joined our veterinary nursing team in August 2020, bringing with her a wealth of experience from her work in emergency and critical care at Gilabbey Veterinary Hospital, Cork. Although she enjoyed working in a specialised environment, she now prefers the diversity of cases and personal service at our first opinion hospital.
At home Lisa has a rescue labrador named Bobby and two cats, Poekie and Diablo. In her free time she loves to bake, a hobby we all benefit from here at the practice!
Born and bred in Tralee, Caoimhe returned to her home town in 2020 to commence her career after graduating with a BSc in Veterinary Nursing from Dundalk IT. Since joining our team in February 2021, she has become a huge asset to our team, embracing the opportunity of a busy working environment to further her skill set. Caoimhe has a particular interest in surgical nursing and anaesthesia. At home she has a cheeky cat named Oscar who has her wrapped around his little toe!
Originally from Dingle, Sara recently returned to Ireland after several years living and working abroad. Having previously worked in the service industry, Sara decided to pursue her passion for working with animals and graduated from Athlone IT in 2020 with BSc in Veterinary Nursing. After working in a practice in Dingle for a year, Sara became the newest member of our nursing team in September 2021. In her spare time she is kept busy with her border collie puppy, Púca, whom she recently adopted.
Born and reared in the Tralee area, Chloé has always had a passion for animals and was delighted to join our team in August 2021. Chloé has lots of experience working in the hospitality industry and enjoys interacting with our clients at reception. Between rescuing and adopting, she has amassed 9 fur babies at home! Her dream would be to have her own rescue sanctuary in addition to working here with us... a VW campervan wouldn't go astray either!
Currently, Chloé is completing an animal care and grooming course and hopes to utilize these skills soon.
Cathy recently relocated to Tralee from her home town of New Ross, Co Wexford. Prior to joining our team, she worked in the central appointment office at University Hopsital Waterford where she gained valuable experience in communication and admin.
Cathy has always had animals in her family and now has two dogs of her own called Roxy and Boa.
